More than 43,000 businesses that employ about 370,000 people on Long Island’s South Shore are estimated to face a significant chance of flooding, potentially imperiling the area's economic vibrancy, according to experts and a study from the Long Island Regional Planning Council.

Syosset's school district will launch major renovations on its 10 buildings in the summer of 2026 under a project approved by voters and is expected to take about five years to complete, local officials have announced.

In Lindenhurst, there’s a new course at the high school called Advanced Computer Science Principles and Artificial Intelligence, taught by Glenn Habibi. Habibi said learning how to use AI programs prepares students for a career in computer science and other fields.

The 2025-29 capital budget concentrates on maintaining, rather than expanding, the MTA’s transit system, which the agency has said includes about $1.5 trillion in assets.
