New data released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows union representation grew by 463,000 in 2025, bringing the total number of workers represented by union contracts to 16.5 million.

The agreement, if it holds, would allow the Senate to act before a Friday midnight deadline to fund a large portion of the government for the remainder of the fiscal year.

Josh Slaughter, Long Island political coordinator for the Mason Tenders District Council, a union of 5,000 construction laborers, described the contract as an "on-call contract" that allowed the county quick access to laborers for repair work without needing a bid process.
