Children went back to school this fall amid an extreme heat wave, with temperatures topping 90 degrees for several consecutive days.

Melinda Person, president of the New York State United Teachers union, recently said in a public statement that students should be allowed “multiple pathways” to graduate — an approach that, logically, could leave Regents exams as options rather than requirements.

The Nassau County Legislature on Monday unanimously approved a 13-year pact with the county's largest public employee union that includes wage hikes for thousands of workers and ends a six-year stalemate.

"Nursing home workers and residents have suffered unspeakable consequences," SEIU International President Mary Kay Henry says in a statement. She calls the proposal "bold reform" that gives hope to the "woman-of-color-powered nursing home workforce" for better, safer working conditions ahead.

The event will take place on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington. The last few years has been challenging for everyone, particularly essential workers, and as a result our organization has seen an increased need.
