Valley Stream, N.Y.— New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) nurses at Long Island Jewish (LIJ)/Valley Stream/Northwell reached a tentative contract agreement early Sunday morning after bargaining through the night, averting a looming Feb. 21 strike.

Workers United NY NJ, the union that Starbucks workers in several Long Island stores voted to join in 2022, has filed a charge with the National Labor Relations Board over the firing of Anthony Price, a former employee at a Westbury store.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released its annual report on union density. The report shows that union membership grew by 139,000  in 2023. Union membership in the private sector increased by 191,000 members, with a majority of new members under the age of 45.
