The state will spend $150 million to connect the Ronkonkoma LIRR station with a yet-to-be-built northern terminal at Long Island MacArthur Airport, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Wednesday — a move experts suspect will reinvigorate plans for that terminal project.

Amid ongoing federal scrutiny of wind power, the Sunrise Wind project is moving closer to completion of its 17.5-mile onshore cable in Brookhaven, while a ship is due off the coast of Smith Point this weekend to begin  work on the undersea cable.

Alexandra Ryan, 1199SEIU union contract administrator for Peconic Bay, said Northwell approved two out of the three yearly raises for a contract extension for employees at other branch hospitals on Long Island. The raises were 7% in 2023, 6% in 2024 and the last will be 5% in October 2025.

Lawmakers across the country are increasingly recognizing that making striking workers eligible for unemployment insurance (UI) is good for workers and good economics.

“Federal employees should know that approved union contracts are enforceable by law, and the president does not have the authority to make unilateral changes to those agreements,” Everett Kelley, the president of the American Federation of Government Employees, said in a statement.
