In Elwood, a hamlet in the Town of Huntington, residents approved a $78,566,259 budget for the 2025-26 school year. The spending plan includes a 2.64% increase in the school property tax levy, higher than the district's state-imposed limit of 1.29%.

Hundreds of crew members and more than a dozen ships are already operating in the waters off the South Shore of Nassau to prepare the seabed with a rock layer to stabilize the 54 turbine foundations, which are being installed by the Netherlands-based vessel Thialf.

Southern lawmakers have neglected basic worker protections and disinvested in social safety net programs while offering hefty subsidies to corporations, privatizing public goods, and giving the wealthy big tax breaks.  

Long Island addiction-treatment providers said Monday that a congressional spending bill's $880 billion in proposed cuts, largely to Medicaid, and more than $1 billion in proposed trims to the federal budget, could lead to closed substance abuse programs and reduced services.

The state's guidance says that generally a warrant signed by a judge is required for ICE enforcement or interrogation and administrative warrants are not valid to enter a school building.
