An environmental review of a proposed $4 billion casino resort at the Nassau Coliseum will forge ahead in the Town of Hempstead despite a legal battle over whether county lawmakers improperly struck a deal with developer Las Vegas Sands. 

The approval of the three-year contract from the members of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists announced Tuesday night by union leaders was no certainty, with some prominent members voicing dissent on the deal their negotiators bargained for.

The $8 million resurfacing project on the parkway will cover about 36 lane miles from Exits 32 to 39, according to Stephen Canzoneri, a spokesman with the state Department of Transportation.

The settlement still needs a judge's approval before it can take effect. The state's Cannabis Control Board did not immediately release the terms of the settlement.

The town is proposing a radius of 750 feet instead of 1,000 feet when it comes to the distance separating dispensaries from residences. A public hearing on the proposal will take place at 3 p.m. on Dec. 6 at Town Hall.
