Employees at the Holtsville branch of the Internal Revenue Service said staff reductions were ongoing Thursday, as the Trump administration moves to downsize the federal government and terminate 6,000 IRS employees nationwide.

National Grid on Friday made its “best and final” contract offer to its unionized workforce of nearly 1,200 employees, who will review it in coming weeks and take a vote to accept or reject it.

Hundreds of thousands of workers across the United States went on strike in 2024—from health care workers in California to public school teachers in Massachusetts to telecommunications workers in the South.

The state will spend $150 million to connect the Ronkonkoma LIRR station with a yet-to-be-built northern terminal at Long Island MacArthur Airport, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Wednesday — a move experts suspect will reinvigorate plans for that terminal project.

Amid ongoing federal scrutiny of wind power, the Sunrise Wind project is moving closer to completion of its 17.5-mile onshore cable in Brookhaven, while a ship is due off the coast of Smith Point this weekend to begin  work on the undersea cable.
