Most parents doing back-to-school shopping earlier amid cost concerns, fewer buying online

This year, 62% of parents started back-to-school shopping by early July, according to a survey of 7,677 consumers conducted by the National Retail Federation, a Washington, D.C.-based trade group. That is down slightly from the 67% who had started by the same period last year, but significantly higher than the 55% in 2024, the NRF said.
