Long Island data centers face power and site challenges despite growth efforts

“The main obstacles to developing additional data centers on Long Island include limited availability of appropriate sites, the high cost of property, zoning considerations and, most importantly, the significant power and cooling requirements,” explains Paul Lageraaen, senior vice president and energy market director of H2M architects + engineers in Melville. “Long Island is already facing a power demand crunch, and massive data centers can require hundreds of megawatts of continuous power.”
