"Today’s tragedy in Nesconset is a painful reminder that road workers are among the most vulnerable people on Long Island’s highways," said Marc Herbst, executive director of the Long Island Contractors’ Association, the regional trade association of the heavy construction industry, in a statement. "We mourn this worker and pray for his colleagues’ recovery. But mourning isn’t enough — we need stronger work zone enforcement, expanded speed camera coverage, and real consequences for drivers who put crews at risk. No paving job is worth a life."
