Imran Ansari

Imran Ansari has worked in Long Island government, politics, and government relations since 2013, after graduating from Hofstra University with an undergraduate degree in Political Science. His first professional stop was in the Office of Congressman Steve Israel as his Executive Assistant, where his primary responsibility was managing the schedule of Congressman Israel. Since then, he has worked for Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, and New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, before leaving government service.

He handled scheduling, constituent affairs, and social media for Legislator Sarah Anker. While working for Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, he oversaw community outreach projects, and was part of the intergovernmental relations team that liaised between the County Executive and the Suffolk County Legislature.

Imran served as the Nassau County Regional Representative for New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo. In this role, he was responsible for keeping the Governor and senior staff informed of all key local current events, representing the Governor at events, and staffing the Governor on visits to Long Island. While in the Governor’s office, Imran’s proudest accomplishment was playing a role in the planning and execution of the UBS Arena, and its adjacent community benefits.

After leaving government service, Imran worked for Discover Long Island as their Vice President of Community Engagement. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, he was responsible for communicating with key regional stakeholders and local hospitality businesses. He handled keeping Discover Long Island’s partners informed in regards to various funding opportunities to help assist with pandemic related financial struggles. He also led efforts to get state Tourism Recovery Improvement District legislation introduced in 2020, and then again in 2021.

Imran has served as the Political Director for the Long Island Federation of Labor since July of 2021. In this role, he works on political and legislative projects. In order to ensure the labor movement’s interests are represented publicly, Imran often speaks at public forums to voice the needs of Long Island’s working families. He also oversees the organization’s role in the campaigns of labor’s endorsed candidates. Starting in 2021, he spearheaded the rollout of AFL-CIO’s race and the economy workshops on Long Island. In these workshops, Imran highlights the link between systemic racism and the generational wealth gap. Imran also currently sits on the Long Island Jobs with Justice Board.

Imran resides in Huntington Station with his wife, Elizabeth and son, Elijah.
