Joint Statement from John R. Durso, President, and Ryan Stanton, Executive Director Long Island Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO regarding the suspension of the East Coast Offshore Wind Projects

Trump’s most recent stop-work order is anti-worker, anti-business, and anti-American. We have long been a country that understands economic certainty matters: that the rule of law, predictable permitting, and honoring commitments are essential to attracting investment and building major infrastructure. Targeting energy projects after billions have already been committed sends the opposite message and undermines confidence across the entire economy.

It is a reckless decision that puts the livelihoods of thousands of union workers at risk, many of whom live and work right here on Long Island, just two days before Christmas.

For years, the labor movement on Long Island has supported an all-of-the-above energy strategy because it delivers reliable, affordable power while creating good, family-sustaining union jobs. That is exactly what these offshore wind projects represent: major private investment, long-term career pathways for skilled tradespeople, and critical energy infrastructure that strengthens our regional and national economy.

Trumps stop-work order doesn’t just stall projects; it destabilizes communities, threatens middle-class jobs, and jeopardizes America’s economic future.

Working families deserve better, and so does our country.

Sincerely,
John R. Durso
