Bay Shore, N.Y.— New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) nurses at Northwell/South Shore University Hospital ratified a three-year contract that includes improvements to safe staffing standards for quality patient care.

"The membership is unhappy and angry at the offer that was given to us after two months of negotiating," said Pat Guidice, business manager for the local, after the vote.

New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) nurses at Northwell Health/South Shore University Hospital gathered outside the hospital to demand Northwell negotiate and settle a fair contract.

"We need an increase that keeps pace with inflation," [said Pat Guidice, Business Manage of IBEW Local 1049].

Pat Guidice, business manager of Local 1049, said he expected to receive the company’s latest and best offer for a contract by sometime Friday, and that he would present it to members for a vote in advance of any call for a strike.

Unionized National Grid workers, whose contract expires next week, voted Wednesday to authorize a strike if a new pact isn't reached by midnight on Feb. 13.
