Those who have benefited from more generous health insurance subsidies put in place in 2021 — and set to expire Dec. 31 — include independent contractors, freelancers, gig workers, small-business owners and employees of companies that don’t offer health insurance.

On Friday, October 3, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) did not publish the September Employment Situation Summary report. The monthly “jobs report” provides policymakers, businesses, and the public with the most rigorous and timely employment data on the labor market.

"The total impact obviously is yet to be seen," Martin Cantor, director of the Long Island Center for Socio-Economic Policy, said of the Long Island consequences.
