New York's unemployment insurance (UI) system is way out of date. The victims of our economic crisis need a lifeline, and they deserve better income supports than the system currently provides.
New York ranks in 48th place compared to other states in terms of how well its UI benefits support recipients and their families. The current average weekly UI benefit of about $305 replaces less than 27 percent of the average weekly wage.
