LI Fed Statement on the Passing of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka

Monday, August 9, 2021

Last week on August 5th, we lost Richard Trumka the President of the AFL-CIO. Below is a statement from myself and our Executive Director Roger Clayman on his passing.

"We are saddened by the news that AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka has passed away. Rich was a charismatic leader of our labor movement, an unflinching champion of workers' rights. In the last couple of years, as our nation struggled to overcome the COVID pandemic and America's workers made heroic sacrifices, Rich brought the national labor movement together around an agenda of safe workplaces, economic recovery and workers' rights. Rich was well known by our Long Island labor movement. He participated in the dedication of the Long Island Workers' Memorial at its site in Hauppauge and worked closely with our leadership. We send our deepest sympathies to his family."
If you wish to pay respects his family is providing us the opportunity next Saturday, Aug. 14, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. ET. President Trumka will lie in repose at the House of Labor, a place and an idea that he loved so much.
