On behalf of the Long Island Federation of Labor, I would like to wish everyone a Happy Labor Day. For the 250,000 Long Island union members and their families, this is a day that we celebrate the work that everyone does each and every day as well as the rights that we have fought for.
Since the first Labor Day in 1882, our movement has been fighting to make workers lives better. First it was fighting for a weekend, a 40 hour work week, and safety rules that allowed us to come home safely every day. Now, over 100 years later, we continue to fight for a living wage, and for a future where new technology like wind power makes our lives and the world better without costing us good paying union jobs.
Have a Happy and Safe Labor Day and say thank you to a worker this weekend.
