Below are some of the charitable events that our affiliate unions are taking part in over the Christmas holiday season.
RWDSU Local 338, based in Mineola, has been taking part in a Toy Drive in conjunction with the John Theissen Children’s Foundation. These unwrapped toys will be donated to underprivileged and sick children and will ensure that these kids have at least one present to open on Christmas morning. Laborers 66, based in Mellville, also held a Toy Drive at their recent December Meeting in support of children at Stony Brook Hospital.
Sheet Metal Workers (SMART) Local 28, which is based in NYC but represents many workers on Long Island, also recently held their 5th Annual Tinknockers Toy Drive. Members from across the region donated toys which were then handed out to children in Inwood and Corona.
CSEA Long Island Region's Veterans Committee's, based in Commack, members gathered together to deliver holiday donations to veterans facilities in our area. The first stop was the veterans' home at the Northport VA Medical Center. The second stop was the Stony Brook Veterans Home. Items such as clothing, personal care items, and gift cards were all donated by CSEA members, hoping to help veterans in need during the holiday season.
