On behalf of our sisters and brothers at the Communications Workers of America (CWA), we are advocating for the approval of the proposed merger of AT&T and DirecTV. The merger, which is under consideration by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), is supported by the New York State AFL‐CIO as well as by the National AFL‐CIO and other state federations.
The benefits of the proposed merger for workers and customers alike are several. For example, for workers, AT&T is the largest fulltime union employer in the country. The company has a history of
respecting the right of workers to have a voice on the job. And, for consumers, 15 million customers will experience the benefit of increased competition for broadband service, particularly in traditionally underserved rural areas.
Further, because the companies’ core services are not currently in direct competition, but rather complimentary, there is no loss of service.
