Leadership Training

 

The Long Island Federation of Labor has embraced Leadership Training as a means to strengthen our labor movement and prepare the next generation of union activists for the responsibility of leadership. Over the past seven years, over one-hundred union leaders have participated in the Federation’s Leadership Program. Participants meet monthly at the Long Island Federation of Labor receiving instruction in collective bargaining, labor history, personal finance, legislative issues, communications and ethics. The class includes a trip to Albany or Washington, D.C. providing students the opportunity to interact directly with lawmakers, administrators, and policy analysts.

 

Preliminary 2014 Curriculum: 

 

Legislation & National & State Politics, Grievance Handling & Arbitration, Ethics, Collective Bargaining, Labor History, Internal Union Communications & Administration, Labor Law –Organizing

 

Class Schedule: 

 

February 9, March 16, April 27, Class Trip to Washington D.C. May 13 & 14, June 15, July 20, September 21, October 19, November 9
