Leadership Training
The Long Island Federation of Labor has embraced Leadership Training as a means to strengthen our labor movement and prepare the next generation of union activists for the responsibility of leadership. Over the past four years, over one-hundred union leaders have participated in the Federation’s Leadership Program. They have participated in monthly classes at SUNY Farmingdale receiving instruction in collective bargaining, labor history, personal finance, legislative issues, communications and ethics. They traveled to Albany and Washington, D.C. to interact directly with lawmakers, administrators, and policy analysts.
The training addresses the issues which are most crucial to each sector of our movement. We train local union leaders to respect the concerns of other affiliates and encourage them to become engaged in representing our common concerns in public forums.
