Last week, the Long Island Federation of Labor joined local businesses, chambers, labor unions, and community organizations to call on New York State to pass, sign, and implement a policy that delivers a better future for working people in our state. Indexing the minimum wage will help prevent the erosion of wages over time and will serve as a valuable recruitment and retention tool. Furthermore, a recent Siena College poll showed 70% of New York voters, including a majority of both Republicans and Democrats, support this kind of policy.

We have our Annual Reception in just a couple weeks Honoring three great leaders, including U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, IBT Local 707 President Kevin McCaffrey, and President and CEO of the EAC Network Neela Mukherjee-Lockel for their dedication and commitment to Long Island’s working families. We hope you’ll come out and support these three deserving leaders.

In other news, long time Treasurer of the Long Island Federation of Labor and IBEW Local 363 member Dominick Macchia was appointed to the LIPA Board of Trustees, our Executive Director Ryan Stanton appeared on Suffolk AME’s radio show Suffolk Matters, and UFCW Local 1500 is hosting a blood drive on March 21st.
